World War Two was the first war to see the concerted use of rockets - be they rockets fired at civilians such as the V1 and V2, rockets fired from planes at trains etc as was seen so clearly in the early days after D-Day in June 1944 and rocket systems such as the Katyusha used to support the infantry by the Russians in their advance to Berlin.
Events in Egypt, the nationalisation of the Suez Canal and the increasing heroic status of Nasser, made conflict looked inevitable. On November 3 rd 1956, Anthony Eden prepared to address the nation. By now it was clear to those around him, that Eden's health was suffering. The director of the broadcast, David Attenborough, stated “He looked dreadful, very ill.

The election in America - held on November 4 th 2008 - resulted in the first non-white American being elected as President - Barack Obama. As the November election loomed nearer, many of the polls predicted a win for Obama over his Republican rival John McCain. These polls were right but few predicted the extent of the victory if Electoral College seats are taken into consideration as opposed to the number of people who voted for each candidate.
While there were a number of candidates at the start of the Republican Party's primaries in January 2008, the three strongest were John McCain, Mike Huckabee and Mitt Romney. Whereas the Democrat Party primaries were to go their full distance, the Republican Party was in a position to call a halt to its primary season by the first week of March when John McCain was declared the party's nomination for the November 2008 presidential election.
The Congress that will come into being after the November 2006 Midterms will be dominated by the Democrats who will hold a healthy majority in the House of Representatives and a slender majority in the Senate if the two Independents stay on the side of the Democrats. President Bush described the impact of the midterms on the Republicans as a “thumping” but that the results will be a “great opportunity” for America to see both President and Congress working together for the betterment of America.
The Red Army was Mao's lifeline during such incidents as the Long March. By November 8 th , the Democrats had a majority in both the House of Representatives and the Senate. With two years left for his presidency, George W Bush will have to work with a Democrat Congress.
